Health Science: Therapeutic and Diagnostic Services/EMS - Diploma

The Emergency Medical Science prepares graduates to enter the workforce as Emergency Medical Technicians or Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians. The course of study provides the student an opportunity to acquire basic life support knowledge and skills by utilizing classroom instruction, practical laboratory sessions, and hospital/field internships. Students progressing through the program may be eligible to apply for both state and national certification exams. Employment opportunities include ambulance services, fire and rescue agencies, air medical services, specialty areas of hospitals, industry, educational institutions, and government agencies.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Health Science: Therapeutic & Diagnostic Services/EMS Program, the graduate should be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and organization of the pre-hospital health care delivery system.
  • Discuss the purpose and function of a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Describe the role and responsibilities of the EMT and AEMT.
  • Utilize effective oral and written communication and proper terminology related to pre-hospital medicine.
  • Demonstrate ethical and moral judgment.
  • Perform basic and advanced patient assessments, skills, and treatment of both, life-threatening and non-life-threatening emergencies.
