Developmental Education

Developmental education provides students with the opportunity to strengthen skills in reading, English, and math. Placement in developmental education is based on placement policies and procedures which are outlined in the placement section of this catalog.

Developmental education courses are offered to promote student success and to meet specific course prerequisites. Developmental education courses do not offer college credit but are available to those who plan to enter diploma or degree programs. Financial aid cannot be used for more than 30 hours of developmental coursework.

Instruction provided through developmental courses offers opportunity to gain needed skills prior to enrolling in gateway English and math courses. Additional guidance for prerequisite courses is defined in the Course Prerequisite and Corequisite section of the catalog.

Exit Criteria

Developmental math courses have a minimum passing grade of 70 (C). Students achieving at or above this level of mastery will be qualified to enroll in a gateway math course. Those who do not earn a 70 will be required to retake the course until mastery is demonstrated.

The developmental English course has a minimum passing grade of 70 (C). Students achieving at or above this level of mastery will be qualified to enroll in curriculum-level English.  Those who do not earn a 70 will be required to retake the course until mastery is demonstrated.
