Transfer Credit Policy

Sampson Community College may award transfer credit for comparable coursework completed at other accredited institutions. Only courses with a minimum grade of “C” or higher are eligible for consideration. Students must submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions to the Registrar’s Office for evaluation. The Registrar’s Office, in consultation with relevant academic departments, will assess transcripts for course equivalency.

Transfer credit will be approved or denied based on content, quality, and credit hours to comparable courses. Courses completed more than 10 years prior to enrollment may be subject to additional review to ensure content relevancy, particularly in evolving fields. Students may be required to repeat courses when changes in technology and/or current practices indicate new competencies must be acquired. Students will be notified of their transcript credit evaluation results via Self-Service.

External transfer credits are not calculated in the student’s grade point average. Students transferring from other institutions are admitted in good academic standing and must complete at least 25% of their program’s credit hours at SCC.

Students who wish to appeal a transfer credit decision must submit a written appeal to the Registrar’s Office. The appeal should include a detailed rationale for reconsideration and supporting documentation (i.e., course descriptions or syllabi). The appeal will be reviewed by the registrar, program chair, program dean, and VP of Academic & Student Affairs, and a decision will be communicated within 10 business days.
