Disability Services
Disability Services at Sampson Community College is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive learning environment in which all students have equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from the College’s programs, services, and activities. The College complies with applicable federal laws, including the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008. In accordance with these laws, reasonable accommodations and auxiliary aids are provided to qualified students with disabilities based on documented functional limitations. The Director of Special Populations works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to coordinate appropriate accommodations. College policies and procedures are administered in a non-discriminatory manner.
Eligibility and Registration
Students seeking accommodations are responsible for:
- Self-identifying to the Disability Services Office
- Providing appropriate documentation of a disability or chronic medically diagnosed condition
- Requesting accommodations in a timely manner
Eligibility for services is determined on a case-by-case basis. Accommodations are not retroactive and are only provided to students who have completed the registration process with Disability Services.
Faculty Responsibilities
Faculty members play an important role in ensuring equal access for students with disabilities. Upon receipt of an official accommodation notification from Disability Services, faculty are expected to provide approved accommodations in a timely manner and in accordance with College procedures. Faculty are not responsible for determining eligibility for accommodations.
Seizure Disorders
Students with a history of seizure disorders are encouraged to contact Disability Services and provide medical documentation so that appropriate procedures can be established in the event of a seizure.
